Thank you for stepping through our doorway into the many worlds of human experience—nature, dreams, abstract thought, contemplation, and the life divine.
Allow me to share a little about how this collection emerged, developed, and finally blossomed into something more accessible than books of poetry alone—and what you can expect to find here.
I have been a seeker of truth and the underlying reality of things for most of my life. I am getting up there in age, and like others who have traveled this far, I carry considerable experience behind me—not only experience lived, but experience reflected upon and pondered.
For five decades, I have studied the world's wisdom traditions, psychology, anthropology, phenomenology, myth, meaning, nature, human relationships, civilization, systems, and fields. These explorations naturally found their way into my writing.
The poems and songs are most often left open, allowing listeners and readers to form their own associations with their own experiences. I work with relatable imagery, descriptive pictures, and predominantly plainspoken language. The question is rarely about an experience alone, but also: What are we to make of it? What is its greater context? How do we process it? What weight and meaning does it carry? And how do we know what we think we know about it?
When the poems and songs enter the subtle realms of mind, they may carry you into a dreamscape or present a conceptual proposition. When they appear to describe the outer world, that landscape will often reflect an inner state—a feeling, relationship, process, transformation, or inherent quality that can be perceived and experienced.
So, I welcome you to travel a little farther along the path of life with us through songs, music, and poetry. We hope you enjoy the many musical and vocal styles through which these poems and songs have been interpreted.
On behalf of us both, we wish you a rich and rewarding journey.
Happy listening,
Mike
